Run Your First DeepCLI Session in Termux

DeepCLI is the Termux Monorepo’s command-line interface for the DeepSeek API. This guide walks you through a complete session lifecycle: creating a session, sending messages, enabling thinking mode, reviewing history, exporting your conversation, and branching it with a fork.

Create a new session

Start by initializing a fresh conversation context with the new command.

python3 deepcli/deepcli.py new

Expected output:

Session created: sess_7f3a9b2e

Send a message

Pass your prompt directly to the send command. DeepCLI forwards it to the DeepSeek API and prints the response.

python3 deepcli/deepcli.py send "Explain how Termux handles package management"

Expected output (truncated):

[DeepSeek] Termux uses apt and pkg as its package managers...

Enable thinking mode

Add the --thinking flag when you want the model to show its reasoning chain before the final answer.

python3 deepcli/deepcli.py send "Refactor this loop for readability" --thinking

Expected output:

[Thinking] 1. Identify loop type: for-range over slice
[Thinking] 2. Check for index-only usage
[Thinking] 3. Replace with range over values
[DeepSeek] for _, v := range items { ... }

List active sessions

View all stored sessions so you can pick one to resume.

python3 deepcli/deepcli.py list

Expected output:

View session history

Use the history command with a session ID to inspect the full message log.

python3 deepcli/deepcli.py history --session sess_7f3a9b2e

Export the session

Export a conversation to a JSON file for backup, sharing, or further processing.

python3 deepcli/deepcli.py export --format json --output chat.json

Expected output:

Exported 4 messages to chat.json

Fork a conversation branch

Create a new session branched from a specific message. This is useful when you want to explore an alternate reply without losing the original thread.

python3 deepcli/deepcli.py fork --session sess_7f3a9b2e --message-id msg_3

Expected output:

Forked session: sess_9d2e4f1a
Parent: sess_7f3a9b2e @ msg_3

You can chain commands in scripts. For example, run deepcli.py new && deepcli.py send "Summarize README" --thinking inside a CI step to generate automated release notes.
